Discussion:
[Geoserver-users] WFS GetFeature Request takes very long

Hi!

I'm having a geoserver instance of version 2.7 and approximately 10 000 layer contained in one workspace and in the Postgresql datastore.

Whenever I run a GetFeature Request via POST it seems to take very long... Even if i set maxFeatures to "1".

Unfortunately, the firewall of my company network cuts the request after 1 Minute, so I don't even know if there will be a response at all.

I set the geoserver logging to "DEBUG" but I couldn't see any error message related to it.

Do you have any hints on what i may do so solve this problem?

Thanks a lot!

Steffen

The only thing I can think of is upgrading to GeoServer 2.11.x, there are
changes
in there that should make GetFeature in an installation with many layers
faster.
That said, no promises, try it out and let us know! :-)

Cheers
Andrea

I'm using Geoserver in the Bundle together with Geonode, so I don'r really want to update geoserver.

It seems that not only the WFS requests take so much time. It's also the GetCapabilities request which takes 4 minutes until the webserver sends the timeout.

In the logs I can see, whenever I start a GetCapabilities request, it prints the following:
"12 Jun 16:33:57 DEBUG [org.geoserver.wms.capabilities] - Adding GetLegendGraphic call as LegendURL"

Whatever Geoserver is doing there, will it be done on every GetCap request or only once after a tomcat restart?

Cheers,
Steffen
