[Geoserver-users] ENVI Ehdr support in GeoServer

Hello,

I'm new to GeoServer and wish to load up some ENVI raster data. I have a
successful installation and I've added the GDAL coverage extension. I
see that there is Ehdr Coverage Format in the Coverage Plugins List.



When I go to create a new coverage store using the EHdr Coverage Format,
Geoserver returns one of two messages saying it could not find the file
or indicating an invalid url. Exact messages:

1. Could not find file: C:\Program Files\GeoServer
1.7.1\data_dir\coverages\bhtmdef.dat Perhaps location was entered
wrong?; or
2. "Invalid url: 'file:coverages/bhtmref.dat' for format
type:'EHdr'. The file is indeed at this location with a corresponding
.hdr file.



If I enter the .hdr file in the URL field the console returns:

"ERROR 1: The selected file is an ENVI header file, but to open ENVI
datasets, the data file should be selected...."



Can anyone provide some advice on how to troubleshoot these messages?
I've tried renaming the ENVI binary file extension to .dat, .img, .envi
and .ehdr but nothing seems to be recognized.

Hi Mark,
can you give me your sample data so I can do a test and trace the problem?
Also note that having spaces on a path (C:\program files) could raise
problems.

The EHdr coverage format is instead referring to the ESRI Hdr labelled
format.
For your information, we are working on setting up a release of the
Imageio-ext project (also containing ENVI Hdr support) in order to bring the
geotools Imageio-ext gdal module to supported land.
Adding ENVI Hdr support to geoserver will be an easy task.

Yes, I'm working with ENVI format. I was a bit confused as to which EHdr
GeoServer was using. Especially since I got an error message referring
to ENVI and not ESRI. It's good to know that ENVI support is coming
soon. I'll send the data under separate cover.

Hi again Mark,
GDAL uses "EHdr" to refer to the ESRI Hdr format.
Being our ImageIO-ext project based on GDAL we have used the same naming.
Finally, being the Geotools module based on the ImageIO-Ext, the name is
again "EHdr".
Anyway, I will change the Format Description "EHdr Coverage Format" to "ESRI
Hdr labelled Coverage Format" to avoid confusion.
About the error message, I guess the underlying GDAL library successfully
recognized the ENVI file although the proper Geotools format reader isn't
defined yet.
