Hello all! I am attempting to get geoserver running under Plesk on Debian. I
have been told that it is not an issue with Plesk. I have tried version
2.0.2, 2.0 and 1.7.7 - none of these work.

I know I am being very vague, but that is the problem, I can't find any
errors or anything in the logs. I did stumble upon a post regarding Ubuntu
and permissions of catalina. And many other posts saying to run tomcat (not
mod_jk) and just proxy the webapp. This is not an option for me. I am
running mod_jk and I am able to install and run simple applications just
fine.

The standalone GeoServer runs fine, but I want to run it in a vhost
environment.

Has anyone tackled this, or know of any issues under Debian (Lenny). I have
been poking around for hours trying to find anything useful, but no luck, so
I am asking here.

Thanks!

This might be of help:

GeoServer is no simple application unfortunately, it needs access to
the file system, it sets its own system variables, uses JNI and a host
of other java features that are normally banned in Ubuntu.

Cheers
