Discussion:
[Geoserver-users] multiple geotiff files in a single layer...

What's the best way (or any way) to include a collection of geotiff files in a single layer so an application can pull the sections that it wants? I've discovered how to include a single geotiff file in a layer, but that's not quite what I want. The "Import Data" feature creates a separate store and layer for each geotiff file in the collection.

I have a set of 286 files that cover the northern hemisphere, and want to present them as a single layer.

Or do I have a fundamental misconception about how GeoServer is supposed to work?

Hi Glenn,

You may want to look into using an Image Mosaic
(http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/data/raster/imagemosaic/index.html).

Another option are layer groups
(http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/data/webadmin/layergroups.html),
but they may be more suitable for smaller collections of layers that you
only sometimes wish to display together as a single layer.

There's a lot of info about serving raster files in the "GeoServer on
Steroids" presentations by the fine people of GeoSolutions, e.g.
https://www.slideshare.net/geosolutions/geoserver-on-steroids-foss4g-2015.
