[Geoserver-users] Using GeoServer GDAL plugin with latest GDAL

Hi list

reading at the documentation [1] it looks like the GeoServer GDAL
plugin can be used only with GDAL 1.9.2 (as it needs to use
imageio-ext-gdal-bindings-1.9.2.jar).
Is there a way to have it working with more recent GDAL version
(current stable is 2.1.3)?

I am asking this because I need to make it working in a Ubuntu 16.04
box, and it looks like there is no way to compile GDAL 1.9.2 there,
because of this error [2]
